Worli BDD Chawl Redevelopment Moves Forward With 574 New Rehabilitation Homes

574 Families Set to Receive Modern 2 BHK Flats

The Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment has reached another stage with MHADA beginning the distribution of 574 rehabilitation flats in the B and C wings of Rehabilitation Building No. 1. Eligible residents will receive 500-square-foot carpet area 2 BHK homes on a free ownership basis.

Possession Process Begins After Occupancy Approval

The latest allotment follows the receipt of the Occupancy Certificate for the two wings. Eligible beneficiaries can collect their allotment and possession letters from the MHADA project office at Sumer Kendra, Worli, during working days between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Residents have been asked to attend according to their scheduled appointment and bring the required documents to complete the process.

More Families to Move Into New Homes

The latest distribution follows earlier phases of rehabilitation under the Worli project. MHADA has been handing over homes in stages as individual buildings receive the necessary approvals, allowing eligible families to gradually move from old chawl structures into new residences.

192-Acre Redevelopment Brings Major Housing Upgrade

The wider BDD Chawl redevelopment covers around 192 acres across Worli, N.M. Joshi Marg-Parel and Naigaon. The Worli component is planned to rehabilitate 9,689 eligible residents from 121 chawls.

Under the redevelopment plan, residents who previously lived in much smaller chawl rooms are being provided larger 500-square-foot modern homes.

High-Rise Buildings With Modern Amenities

The Worli project includes 34 rehabilitation buildings planned at 40 floors each, along with podium parking and modern residential facilities. Plans include dedicated parking, elevators, fire safety systems, landscaped spaces and other infrastructure.

The larger development is also planned with facilities such as a school, hospital, gymnasium, commercial space and hostel facilities, along with solar power, rainwater harvesting and sewage treatment systems.

Heritage Features to Be Preserved

The redevelopment plan also includes efforts to retain the area's historical identity. Jamboree Ground and Ambedkar Ground are planned for preservation, while one historic BDD Chawl building is proposed to be retained as a museum showcasing the community's social and cultural history.

Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, has been associated with the authority's ongoing rehabilitation efforts as the project progresses through its different phases.

Rehabilitation Continues in Phases

The distribution of 574 homes marks another step in the long-running Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment project. As additional buildings secure occupancy approvals, MHADA is expected to continue the phased possession process and help more eligible residents transition into modern rehabilitation housing.
